Why should I study medicine overseas?

As it is very competitive to study medicine in Singapore, many students are now looking into opportunities abroad. Though it is as competitive overseas, you will however have more options to choose from! In fact, out of all the universities that offer a medicine degree, 11 universities offer degrees that are approved and recognised by the Singapore Medical Council (please refer to the list below).

On another note, studying overseas would give you an amazing and eye-opening experience that you will never get just by staying in Singapore alone. It exposes you to the international experience, whether in the health care sector or at a personal level. On top of that, you would also get to use world class medical facilities during your study and internships.

Are there any other pathways I can take if I do not meet the entry requirements?

If a student does not meet the entry requirements of the medicine degree, there are two pathways that a student can undertake: –

1. Foundation programme: Student who has completed GCE A levels/IB but are not able to meet the entry requirements can choose to take on the foundation programme. After completing the foundation programme, student will be able to move on to the undergraduate medical degree. However, progression from foundation to the medical degree is still subjected to final results, the relevant admission test and interview.

2. Graduate entry: Student who has completed a bachelor degree can choose the graduate entry pathway. After completing 4 years of study, student will be awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree.
