[:en]Australia is the country most people will think of for its scenic landscape, natural wonders, wide open spaces and of course the laidback lifestyle. This beautiful geographic location is now actively attracting new skilled migrants to contribute to their growth and property, promoting a diversified culture.

The quality of life style is, without a doubt, what many people are after. Work-life balance is definitely highly achievable when you are in Australia which explains why migration has been ubiquitous and ever-present. It is also a popular destination for many international students because of the holistic education systems which includes many reputable universities.

Choosing a course will somehow be a factor of whether international students can continue to stay in Australia after completing their studies.

What follows is a list of industries that are generally in demand.

  • Agriculture

Many perceived this industry as lowly-paid and purely working in a farm. It is a very diverse field with many career options, Agriculture study encompasses of not only the basics, like crops and animal science, but also allows exploration on how to create a profitable business. This means that agriculture and related courses often incorporate subject areas such as computing and IT, economics, engineering and marketing. Much falls under the broad umbrella of 'agriculture', and it can suit those with interests and skills that range from farming and production to business and science.

  • Architecture, building and construction professions

This industry is a highly-regarded profession and requires professional training in different disciplines like architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture, industrial design, construction project management, property development, and surveying. Having completed 2 to 3 years of professional practise in this field, one can have the opportunity to work on the construction of major buildings, from airports to sports stadiums, hospitals, schools or even government buildings.

  • Education / Child care

Teaching is highly in demand in Australia. You can apply to be one with a 4-year Bachelor Degree in Education and gain the real-world exposure during internships. Depending on your study specialisation, you can find yourself teaching in the early childhood, primary or secondary education. After completing your higher education, you can obtain an Australian education visa or working visa and have your teaching skills assessed by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership. This will help to plan your move to Australia smoothly.

  • Engineering

Engineers work across a vast range of fields and are an essential part of shaping our world, from the most detailed medical engineering projects right through to industrial-scale building developments.

  • Health and Social Assistance

There has been a rise in people studying health. Health Care and Social Assistance is projected to have the strongest employment growth of any industry over the five years to May 2023, supported by the implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and Australia’s ageing and growing population. Jobs include registered nurses, aged and disabled carers, child carers, nursing support and personal carers, and receptionists.

  • Information Technology

One of the most demanded industries in Australia and with a career in this field, students are able to empower themselves with advancement in all aspects including business, health, entertainment and community.

International students who wants to study, work and live in Australia after their studies should apply for an Australia Student Visa first. Having completed at least 2 years of studies or more at a higher education level, an international student will be eligible to apply for a 2-year post-study work visa after you graduate. This means in that 2 years after your studies, you will have the opportunity to seek for full-time employment and to experience what it is like to be working professionally in Australia.

The student can then look for a permanent residency pathway in Australia if they meet the points requirements and other eligibility criteria. In order to be awarded points any qualifications must be related to the applicant's nominated occupation, and must be recognised as comparable to Australian qualifications; This will usually be verified during the skills assessment for the applicant's nominated occupation.

Another alternative could be the employer sponsored visas. Sometimes where an applicant cannot meet skilled migration requirements the next best option is employer sponsorship because the requirements are different to skilled migration, and sometimes easier to meet. If applying through General Skilled Migration, the applicant must have a positive skills assessment from the relevant skills assessing authority and have an occupation that is listed as eligible for the visa type.
